The Ministry of the Interior and Safety noted on the 10th that Acting Minister Ko Gi-dong met with Incheon Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok at Incheon City Hall to discuss cooperation plans for local livelihood stability.

Earlier, Mayor Yoo was elected as the president of the 18th Council of City and Province Governors of the Republic of Korea on Dec. 17. The council is composed of the heads of metropolitan local governments across the country. The president is elected annually in a customary format by the heads, with a term lasting one year.

According to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, on that day, Acting Minister Ko and the chair of the Council of City and Province Governors agreed on the necessity of cooperation between the central government and local governments, and both sides decided to play active roles to achieve this.

Acting Minister Ko said, "I hope that the central and local governments will collaborate more robustly in various fields, such as restoring the livelihood economy, supporting vulnerable groups, and establishing a disaster and safety management system focused on the field, so that residents can live their daily lives with peace of mind."

Chair Yoo noted, "Local governments play a crucial role in maintaining stable lives for residents even in national crisis situations by handling practical administration closest to the people's lives," and added, "In such times, the central and local governments must move forward together based on mutual trust and cooperation."
