The Ministry of the Interior and Safety said a meeting on measures for heavy snow and cold waves was held on the afternoon of the 7th with related organizations.

The meeting was organized in response to the forecast of more than 40 centimeters of snow expected along the west coast of South Chungcheong Province and Jeolla region from today until the 10th. The Korea Meteorological Administration projected snowfall of 10 to 20 centimeters (more than 40 centimeters in some areas) in North Jeolla Province and 5 to 15 centimeters (more than 20 centimeters in some areas) in South Jeolla Province, Gwangju, and South Chungcheong Province. Additionally, a cold wave is expected on the 9th, with Seoul's perceived temperature predicted to drop to minus 20 degrees.

In the meeting, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety reviewed the situation of relevant organizations, including local governments such as North Jeolla Province, South Jeolla Province, and South Chungcheong Province. They also discussed response measures to minimize inconvenience to the public and damage to people and property.

Goh Gi-dong, acting Minister of the Interior and Safety, noted, “The government will utilize all available resources to ensure there is no damage from this heavy snow and cold wave,” adding, “We urge the public to thoroughly wear winter gear and pay attention to safety by checking for surrounding risk factors before conducting snow removal operations.”
