Kim Moon-su, the Minister of Employment and Labor, said on the 16th, “I feel a heavy sense of responsibility as a cabinet member in regard to the current situation.”
Minister Kim, at the 'National Heads of Agency Meeting' held in the morning attended by all department and Director General of the Ministry headquarters, as well as head of 48 local labor offices nationwide, noted, “Especially in times like these, all public officials should unwaveringly perform their duties centered on the field so that the public does not experience inconvenience.”
At the meeting, he emphasized that in relation to the Ministry's work, such as labor relations, employment, and industrial safety, “Field administration should be strengthened to provide meticulous support and prevent wage arrears for each group, including special-type workers, platform workers, small establishments, and construction workers,” adding that, “In terms of labor-management conflicts, we will actively support resolving them through dialogue and compromise, even if it is difficult.”
Minister Kim also said, “Alongside providing customized employment support and vocational training for youth experiencing job difficulties, please pay particular attention to preventing industrial safety accidents such as fires and explosions at industrial sites during the winter,” and added, “We will focus on swiftly implementing projects directly related to the livelihood of the people from the beginning of next year to alleviate job difficulties.”
Meanwhile, Minister Kim did not attend the cabinet meeting held before President Yoon Suk Yeol declared martial law on Dec. 3, but attended the cabinet meeting related to the martial law lift in the early hours of the 4th.
