Member of the National Assembly Na Kyung-won stated that the National Pension birth credit system, which currently provides benefits starting from the second child, should be expanded to apply from the first child.
On the 15th, Member Na stated through her Facebook account that she welcomed the agreement reached by the ruling and opposition parties the previous day to raise the National Pension income replacement rate to 43%, and noted that "the proposal for expanding birth and military service credits suggested by the Democratic Party of Korea should also be actively considered." She added, "In particular, the birth credit should apply from the first child, and we should recognize a pension subscription period of 10 years for each child."
Member Na criticized, stating, "The current birth credit system is excessively harsh, as it applies only from the second child, and recognizes a subscription period of 12 months for the second child and 18 months for the third child, up to a maximum of 50 months."
He argued, "To reduce the burden on future generations and create a sustainable pension structure, structural reforms and low birth rate measures must be pursued simultaneously."
