The Japanese government plans to hold a meeting of the foreign ministers of China, South Korea, and Japan in Tokyo on the 22nd, NHK reported on the 15th.

According to the media, the meeting is expected to be attended by Minister Choi Tae-yul of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wang Yi, head of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission of the Chinese Communist Party and Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Toshimitsu Motegi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan. The three foreign ministers are expected to engage in discussions to concretize cooperation in various areas, including human exchange, economic cooperation, and low birthrate measures. They are also expected to agree on continuing coordination to hold a trilateral summit within the year.

The last foreign ministers' meeting of China, South Korea, and Japan was held in Busan in November 2023. The Japanese government is also reportedly considering holding a 'high-level economic dialogue' where the foreign ministers of China and Japan discuss economic cooperation plans, coinciding with Wang's visit to Japan.

NHK noted that 'the high-level economic dialogue between Japan and China is the first in six years since it was held in Beijing in 2019,' and explained that the Japanese government is seeking to address current issues, including China's import ban on Japanese seafood due to the release of contaminated water (the Japanese government’s term for it is 'treated water') from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant.
