The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 8th that Minister Yoo Sang-im visited the SK C&C Pangyo data center to inspect the safety management status of the data center, which is a key infrastructure for providing digital services.

The visit consisted of confirming the operation of the data center and safety measures, followed by inspecting key facilities. Minister Yoo inspected the power supply facilities (batteries, UPS, emergency generators), server room, and the comprehensive situation control room directly, assessing the readiness for disaster safety.

Since the incident in 2022, SK C&C has been operating the data center by enhancing safety management measures, including strengthening battery management system (BMS) measurement functions, installing additional fire detection equipment for fire prevention, installing fire blankets to prevent fire spread, and ensuring reliable power supply through power redundancy.

The Ministry of Science and ICT plans to inspect the disaster preparedness and emergency response systems for telecommunications, value-added communications, data centers, and other critical information and communications facilities during January, addressing winter disasters, fires, emergency power supply, and traffic surges.

Minister Yoo Sang-im emphasized, “Data centers and digital infrastructure play a crucial role in providing essential digital services to the public,” and stated, “The government and businesses will continue to work closely to ensure stable provision of digital services.”
