SK Telecom has decided not to accept new subscriptions for some LTE plans that are more expensive or offer fewer benefits than 5G plans starting in February next year. This is the second overhaul of pricing among the three major telecommunications companies, following KT, and is a follow-up measure in response to the government's order to resolve the recent phenomenon of LTE pricing surpassing that of 4G.
According to the telecommunications industry on the 25th, SK Telecom announced on its website that it will not accept new subscriptions for 36 plans starting from February 1 next year. These plans are LTE plans that are more expensive or lack benefits compared to 5G plans. The company will completely stop new subscriptions for 13 customized New T plans, 1 Weekend plan, 3 0 Teen plans, 2 0 plans, 3 T Plan Senior plans, 3 Band data plans, 4 T plans, 3 Direct LTE plans, and 4 T Tab plans.
With the issue of the 'LTE plan pricing reversal' coming to the forefront during the National Assembly's audit of the Ministry of Science and ICT this year, the three telecom companies are actively reviewing significant pricing reforms. Minister Yoon Sang-im of the Ministry of Science and ICT also requested during his first meeting with the chief executive officers of the three companies on November 13 to resolve the LTE pricing reversal issue. The three telecom companies stated they would actively consider this.
Among the three telecom companies, KT was the first to suspend new subscriptions for 46 LTE plans that are more expensive than 5G plans on the 3rd of this month. A total of 46 plans are subject to the subscription halt.
