The police arrested a drug supplier on suspicion of providing liquid marijuana to Lee Cheol-kyu, a member of the People Power Party, who is the son of a lawmaker.

An official from the National Investigation Headquarters of the Korean National Police Agency noted at a regular briefing on the 17th, "We received a tip and arrested one suspect around early March, and we are conducting an investigation without detention." The arrested individual is said to be linked to a drug organization's upper echelon. The police have requested digital forensics on mobile phones and are also investigating whether there are higher-ups involved.

Lee, the 30-something son of the lawmaker, is accused of attempting to find liquid marijuana in a residential area in Seocho District, Seoul, last October but was unsuccessful. Lee is reported to have tried to retrieve drugs using a method known as "throwing," where drugs are thrown to specific locations or individuals.

When arrested, Lee was in a rental car with his wife and another individual. The police reported that they have booked not only Lee but also his wife, the passenger, and four others suspected of providing marijuana. They also requested precise examinations of their urine or hair at the National Forensic Service. An official from the National Investigation Headquarters said, "Some results have come in, but not all have been received," adding, "We need to wait for the complete results to review how to proceed with further investigations."

The police official also stated regarding Lee's detention, "We need to comprehensively review the National Forensic Service test results and the connections to the upper echelon."

Meanwhile, the police have completed the investigation of the complainant related to former People Power Party lawmaker Jang Je-won, who was accused of sexually assaulting his secretary, and are coordinating a date for Jang's attendance. Additionally, the initial findings from the National Forensic Service regarding singerHweseong, who was found dead in a cardiac arrest state, indicate an unknown cause of death, and they are currently awaiting the results of further tests.
