Son Chang-wan, former president of Korea Airport Service (pictured), died on the 21st. Son was responsible for airport safety in South Korea when the upgrade project for the localizer, one of the causes believed to be behind the Jeju Air passenger aircraft disaster, began.

According to police, Son was found dead around 6 p.m. that day in an apartment in Gunpo, Gyeonggi Province. A family member, who returned home after going out, discovered him and reported it. Police have not found any signs of foul play and believe he took his own life. They are investigating the details surrounding his death.

Son, a former head of the National Police University, served as president of Korea Airport Service from December 2018 to February 2022 after losing in the 20th National Assembly elections in 2016. During his tenure, the localizer upgrade project at Muan Airport was carried out. This project reinforced the concrete embankment.
