The court sentenced Park Dae-seong (31), who brutally stabbed a teenage woman walking at night with a knife, to life imprisonment.
The Gwangju District Court Suncheon Branch Criminal Division 1, led by Director General Kim Yong-kyu, sentenced Park Dae-seong to life imprisonment and ordered him to wear an electronic device for 20 years during the first trial sentencing hearing on murder and attempted murder charges on the 9th.
The court noted, "The victim's fear and helplessness from being suddenly attacked are difficult to explain in words, and it seems the bereaved family will struggle to heal from the tremendous mental pain and scars and to return to their daily lives," adding, "The severity of the crime is grave, and the nature of targeting an unrelated person without any reason is extremely poor."
Park Dae-seong was charged with fatally stabbing an 18-year-old woman who was walking in Jorye-dong, Suncheon, Jeollanam-do, at around 12:44 a.m. on Sept. 26 last year, without any clear reason. After the crime, he was also charged with preparing for additional murders after visiting a bar and karaoke room run by a woman while holding a weapon without wearing shoes.
The police released Park Dae-seong's personal information and mugshot during the investigation stage, considering the brutality of the crime and the significant damage.
