A shaman known as Jeon Seong-bae (64), referred to as 'Geonjinbeopsa,' appeared on the 9th for a pre-arrest interrogation regarding allegations of receiving illegal political funds. He did not answer questions from reporters about his 'relationship with President Yoon Suk-yeol and his spouse' and entered the courthouse.
On this day, Jeon appeared for the pre-arrest interrogation, presided over by the Director General of the Seoul Southern District Court, Judge Jeong Won. Legal circles predict that the result of the interrogation may be announced as early as later that afternoon.
Jeon did not respond to reporters’ questions such as, 'Do you admit to the allegation of receiving over 100 million won?' and 'What is your stance on the suspicion of being involved in various interests by using your relationship with the President and his spouse?' Previously, Jeon faced allegations of being involved in various interests while flaunting his friendship with President Yoon and his spouse.
Jeon was urgently arrested by prosecutors on the 17th of last month on suspicion of receiving over 100 million won from a candidate in the primary election of the Liberty Korea Party, the predecessor of the People Power Party, ahead of the 2018 Gyeongbuk Yeongcheon mayoral election. The Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office requested an arrest warrant the next day, but the court dismissed it, stating, 'The date, amount, and method of the money received by the suspect are not clearly confirmed.' After supplementary investigations, the prosecution re-requested the arrest warrant on the 6th of this month.
The prosecution also reportedly secured testimony from related parties indicating that 'Jeon received money by leveraging his relationship with People Power Party member Yoon Han-hong.' However, Yoon denied any connection with Jeon. Additionally, while tracing the flow of funds related to the fraudulent cryptocurrency 'Queen Bee Coin,' the prosecution is said to have also captured suspicious fund flows associated with Jeon.
