As the People Power Party and the government decided to designate the day before the Lunar New Year holiday (28th-30th) on the 27th as a temporary holiday, Jeong Won-oh, the head of the Seongdong District in Seoul, argued that it would be better to designate the 31st as a temporary holiday, the day after the holiday. This is because designating a temporary holiday before the holiday increases the burden of holiday housework for married women.
Jeong noted on Facebook on the 9th, "I am greatly regretful that the designation of a temporary holiday has been made hastily, causing inevitable disruptions to various industries and their workers.' He added, "If a temporary holiday is established, it is necessary to carefully choose the date to better align with the purpose of revitalizing the stagnant economy."
Jeong said that designating the 31st as a temporary holiday instead of the 27th would increase the possibility of families going out for dining or short outings after finishing holiday schedules and taking a rest until the weekend. He claimed that this would also better align with the government's intention to boost domestic consumption.
He also wrote, "For many married women, designating the 27th as a temporary holiday could actually lead to an increase in the burden of holiday housework," and stated, "We also need to consider that the burdens on office workers who have various payments and deadlines clustered on the 31st could also increase."
