South Jeolla Province announced on the 6th that it would propose to the government to introduce an advanced bird monitoring system at Muan Airport and build runways at the level of an international airport capable of handling large aircraft takeoffs and landings in relation to the Jeju Air passenger plane disaster. The province plans to quickly restore navigational safety facilities, such as the localizer with which the aircraft collided, to minimize airport closure time.

Kim Young-rok, governor of South Jeolla Province, stated on the 6th in the provincial office briefing room, that they would "urge a thorough investigation through objective and rational government inquiries to prevent the recurrence of such accidents" and pledged to "do our utmost so that Muan Airport can resume normal operations as soon as possible through the early commencement of operations."

Governor Kim said, "We will seek administrative and financial measures, such as airline loss subsidies, by forming an inter-ministerial consultation body led by the state," and added, "We will endeavor to attract an anchor airline to revitalize Muan Airport and request support from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to swiftly restore a stable basic route system."

South Jeolla Province is pushing for the creation of a memorial park near Muan Airport to honor the victims of the Jeju Air passenger plane accident. The park will cover an area of 70,000 square meters near Muan Airport and will include a memorial tower, a memorial hall, and a healing space with forests and gardens to comfort bereaved families. The necessary budget of 46 billion won will be proposed for national funding support, with some portions covered by local funds.

South Jeolla Province is also pursuing the enactment of a special law to systematically support the construction of the memorial park and the relatives of the victims of the Jeju Air passenger plane accident at the national level. The special law will include grounds for compensation, such as compensation for damages, condolence payments, and loss compensation.

Governor Kim said, "All parties recognize the necessity of enacting the special law," and "it will be pursued when a special committee at the National Assembly level is formed."
