The Central Accident Management Headquarters for Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (AI) announced on the 6th that H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) was detected at a duck farm for meat production in Gimje, North Jeolla Province.

Including this case, a total of 21 cases of highly pathogenic AI have been reported at poultry farms nationwide during the 2024-2025 epidemic period. Of these, 6 cases occurred in poultry farms in the North Jeolla region, accounting for the highest proportion.

After detecting antigens at the farm, the Central Accident Management Headquarters dispatched an initial response team to control access and decided to cull approximately 16,000 ducks being raised there. Additionally, they plan to conduct precise inspections at 69 duck farms in North Jeolla Province and 22 contract duck supply farms nationwide affiliated with Chamfre by the 10th of this month.
