The police have booked Park Jong-jun, the Minister of Presidential Security, on charges of rebellion.
According to a report by Yonhap News on the 5th, the Emergency Martial Law Special Investigation Unit of the National Investigation Headquarters announced that Minister Park has been booked on charges of rebellion following a civic group's accusation. Minister Park is identified as the person who contacted Korean National Police Agency Commissioner Jo Ji-ho and others during the Dec. 3 martial law process to come to a safe house in Samcheong-dong, and an investigation will proceed.
Minister Park is also a suspect, booked on charges of obstructing the execution of an arrest warrant (special obstruction of official duties) related to President Yoon Seok-yeol on the 3rd. The police requested Minister Park to appear on the 4th, but upon non-compliance, a second summons was notified for the 7th.
The police have additionally booked Lee Kwang-woo, the head of the Security Headquarters, and Lee Jin-ha, the head of the Security and Safety Headquarters, on the same charges. They have been required to appear on the 7th and 8th, respectively, to investigate whether they gave improper instructions during the obstruction of the arrest warrant execution.
Furthermore, over the weekend, the police summoned personnel from the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency’s 101st and 102nd Security Divisions and the 22nd Guard Corps as references to verify the command system and directive involvement of senior security officials during the execution of the arrest warrant. The head of the 55th Security Division of Capital Defense Command was also summoned to investigate whether military personnel were deployed in the arrest obstruction process.
This investigation is ongoing amid controversy surrounding the coordination system between the Presidential Security Service, the police, and the military.
