The 'December 29 Jeju Air Passenger Plane Disaster Family Association,' composed of the families of the Jeju Air disaster victims, urged the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on the 4th to thoroughly investigate the cause of the accident.
The association held a press conference on the 2nd floor of Muan International Airport that day, stating, 'The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, responsible for installing and managing airport facilities, has formed the Air and Railway Accident Investigation Board to take charge of identifying the cause. However, there are concerns about whether the investigation will be conducted fairly and transparently, as a former official of the Ministry has been appointed as the chair, and the current Deputy Minister is serving as the standing committee chair.'
They further stated, 'There are suspicions that the airport facilities are among the causes of this disaster, yet the Ministry is conducting a 'self-investigation.' To ensure the neutrality and independence of the investigation board, they demanded that officials from the Ministry be excluded from the investigation or that a separate investigation body be established.'
Additionally, they emphasized that the expression of opinions by the bereaved families should be actively guaranteed, and urged, 'Thoroughly investigate the truth to alleviate the injustice suffered by the victims and heal the wounds of the families.'
