The emergency martial law joint investigation headquarters composed of the police and the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials noted through a press release on the 4th that "the police riot squad did not participate in the execution of the arrest warrant for President Yoon Suk-yeol."
The joint investigation headquarters added, "The riot squad was only responsible for managing rallies and demonstrations around the residence and maintaining order."
This is interpreted as a rebuttal to the previous day's statement by President Yoon's lawyer, Yoon Gap-geun, who noted that it is "very regrettable that an attempt was made to execute forcibly by deploying riot police forces and exercising physical force in the first-class military confidential protection facility area and security area."
The previous day, 45 riot police units (60 officers per unit) totaling about 2,700 personnel were deployed near the residence to prepare for the possibility of clashes during the execution of the arrest warrant. The personnel for executing the arrest warrant included 30 from the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials and 120 from the police special unit.
