H5 avian influenza (AI) antigens have been detected at a layer farm in Daesowon-myeon, Eumseong County, Chungcheongbuk-do. The Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency is currently conducting a precision test to determine high pathogenicity. Test results will be available in 1 to 3 days.

According to quarantine authorities and others on the 30th, the farm owner reported as soon as AI suspected symptoms, such as deaths, appeared. The farm is located within the quarantine zone (10km) of a layer farm in Jincheon, Chungcheongbuk-do, which was confirmed for high pathogenicity AI on the 27th.

Chungcheongbuk-do decided to control access to the farm and cull approximately 44,000 layers being raised there. In accordance with the AI emergency action guidelines, a temporary movement ban was also issued for four adjacent city counties, including Eumseong County, Goesan, Chungju, and Jeungpyeong.

Additionally, areas within 500m, 3km, and 10km of the AI outbreak farm have been designated as a control area, protection zone, and surveillance zone respectively. The 53 farms within the designated quarantine area and 18 epidemiologically related farms will face movement restrictions and precise AI testing.

An official from Chungcheongbuk-do noted, The farm is only 6.5km away from the Jincheon farm in Chungcheongbuk-do, and since Chiljangcheon, where migratory birds appear in winter, is nearby, there is a high possibility of virus contamination. The poultry farms near migratory bird areas must thoroughly perform two-stage disinfection (fixed disinfection and high-pressure sprayer disinfection) on entry vehicles to prevent AI virus entry into farms.
