Sejong University (President Eom Jong-hwa) Sejong Museum Gallery 2 will host a planning invitational exhibition of artist Seo Jeong Lee Seung-yeon, who captures the beauty of our nature with profound ink paintings, from Dec. 11 to 22.
In this exhibition held at Sejong Museum Gallery 2 within Sejong University, over 40 ink paintings capturing the beauty of our landscape with brush and ink will be showcased.
Artist Seo Jeong Lee Seung-yeon, after entering the art world, acquired techniques and spirit of calligraphy and ink painting through in-depth study of Korean calligraphy and traditional ink painting. The artist reveals the aesthetic sense of Korean painting with the dense expression of ink. In the East, landscape (山水) encompasses a comprehensive meaning, including the mountains and water, the flow of air, as well as the people living within.
Former director of the Hyangam Art Museum Heo Gi-jin noted, “The dense use of ink through Seo Jeong Lee Seung-yeon’s brushwork, ink diffusion, and humidity transcends the boundaries of expression by asserting that both the spirit and phenomena of objects can and should be presented, thereby instantly dismantling the rigid preconceptions about ink painting with the limitless symbolism of ink tones.”
A representative from the Sejong Museum Gallery said, “The contrast of broad and deep ink and colors, filling the rice paper and unfolding like a panorama of nature’s landscapes, evokes an elevated aesthetic experience. Based on trust and love for nature and humanity, one can feel the joy of wandering through the painting itself by freely expressing the scenery of the four seasons beyond time and space.”
