Seoul National University College of Engineering has partnered with Hanwha Aerospace to enhance aerospace industry technology.

On the 7th, Seoul National University held an opening ceremony for the "Hanwha Aerospace HUB" at the Engineer House and signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for industry-academic cooperation to address future challenges, it noted on the 9th. The event was attended by Dean Kim Young-o of the College of Engineering at Seoul National University, Center Director Song Sung-jin, Hanwha Aerospace CEO Son Jae-il, and Head of Space Division Lee Jun-won.

The "Hanwha Aerospace HUB" is an industry-academic cooperation network established by Hanwha Aerospace in collaboration with 10 universities, including Seoul National University, Konkuk University, Pusan National University, Yonsei University, Inha University, Chungnam National University, Chungbuk National University, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Hanyang University, and Korea Aerospace University, starting in 2023. Fifty projects in the fields of advanced defense technology, aircraft engines, and aerospace technology will be pursued here.

Seoul National University plans to conduct 15 research projects related to aircraft engine component materials and space launch vehicles at the Hanwha Aerospace HUB. Faculty members from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, and the Department of Aerospace Engineering participating in the mid- to long-term research will reflect the voices of the industrial field to develop advanced technologies.

Dean Kim Young-o said, "The research in the defense, space, and industrial AI fields that the College of Engineering at Seoul National University is focusing on through its engineering innovation program 'Keep Watch' is highly relevant to Hanwha Aerospace's main business, so this agreement is very timely." He further mentioned, "Especially in times of national difficulty, we must thoroughly prepare for the future, and hence, Seoul National University and Hanwha Aerospace plan to work together diligently to cultivate engineering talent."
