NGC 660, known as a polar ring galaxy, features a bright star, gas, and a dark dust ring that appears almost vertical. A similar but shorter ring extends diagonally from the upper left. Polar ring galaxies are believed to form from the collision of two galaxies with different central ring planes. NGC 660 is located about 45 million light-years from Earth in the direction of the constellation Pisces.
