Rep. Lee Jun-seok said, “The Yoon Suk Yeol government has already collapsed,” and noted, “Efforts to remove him should continue as best as possible, but the issue of increasing medical school enrollment that has caused a collapse in healthcare must also be addressed.”

On the 9th, Rep. Lee posted on his Facebook, “If we do not correct things as much as possible before we start recruiting for regular admissions, the qualitative decline of medical school education and additional public inconvenience due to conflicts between the medical community and the government next year will be evident.”

He criticized, “Yoon Suk Yeol is such a foolish person that he would speak of a coup and fake news about a fraudulent election, so how can the guideline of increasing enrollment by 2,000 that he created be scientific?” He added, “If we make the final decisions now and select fewer students, we can prevent a complete collapse of healthcare.”

Voices calling for a halt to next year's medical school admissions are growing both inside and outside the medical community following the state of emergency. The Emergency Response Committee of the National Medical Colleges (Jeon-ui-bi) also issued a statement urging the medical school deans, “We must urgently discuss the cessation of the announcement of accepted candidates for medical school and regular application processes, as well as substantial reductions in enrollment.” The Korean Medical Association's Emergency Response Committee stated, “We need to clarify the process related to the declaration of the martial law command that President Yoon Suk Yeol imposed, which includes the content of ‘punishing departing residents,' and President Yoon must voluntarily resign,” while demanding that the government halt next year’s medical school admissions.
