As demand for cost-effective and low-cost cosmetics increases due to high prices, it has been pointed out that products such as powder, pact, and air cushion under 10,000 won containing talc should be used with caution on children and sensitive areas.

The Korea Consumer Association announced on the 10th the results of tests and evaluations regarding the safety and quality of 14 products of powder, pact, and air cushion under 10,000 won.

According to the test evaluation results, all 14 products passed the safety standards as no heavy metals or microorganisms were detected, and the contents were in compliance with the indicated amount. The safety test results for phthalate plasticizers and allergenic dyes in the included puff were also found to meet the standards.

However, five powder products contained talc, requiring caution when used on children under 3 years old and on sensitive areas of women. Talc, known for its superior moisture absorption, is widely used in cosmetics; however, the European Union (EU) advises including cautionary labels for safe use among children under 3 years of age due to concerns over inhalation.

Among the tested products containing talc are ▲Colorgram Mugyeol Creative Blur Pact ▲Mi Factory Ppusung Ppusung Powder Pact ▲Ipkeun Personal Perfume Powder Pact ▲About Tone Air Fit Powder Pact ▲The Saem Spring Water Perfect Pore Pact Powder, totaling five types.

The product 'Puruluna Cica Sebum Control Powder,' among those surveyed, received corrections to its advertising phrases. This product used the phrase '5-free (talc, synthetic colorants, animal-derived ingredients, mineral oil, parabens), so you can use it safely,' but since the listed ingredients are all approved for use under the Cosmetic Act, it could create the perception that certain ingredients are harmful.

The Consumer Association noted, 'Air cushions, powders, and pacts come with a puff that is primarily used for the face, so for hygienic use, they should be regularly washed or replaced,' and added, 'Powder can clog pores due to its fine particles, so thorough cleansing after use is necessary, and for sensitive skin, it is recommended to check for low-irritation products by verifying fragrance and preservative ingredients.'
