The organization announced on the 19th that it will present two types of 'Sanhowon Kimchi' in the U.S. from Chef Corey Lee, the first Korean to receive the Michelin Guide's three stars.
Corey Lee operates the Michelin three-star fine dining restaurant Benu and the one-star casual Korean restaurant Sanhowon in San Francisco, USA.
The organization explained that it decided to showcase premium kimchi in collaboration with Chef Corey Lee's restaurant Sanhowon to spread the appeal of kimchi in the rapidly growing U.S. market.
Sanhowon Kimchi consists of two types: original kimchi and baekkimchi. Both products are sold in 680g portions, sliced for easy consumption. They are packaged in resealable pouches for convenient storage of leftover kimchi in the refrigerator. The organization plans to sell Sanhowon Kimchi through major distribution channels in the U.S., including H Mart.
Jeong Chan-gi, head of the global kimchi marketing team at the organization, noted, "We planned this special collaboration to widely promote the appeal and value of kimchi in the U.S. market, where kimchi consumption is explosively increasing." He expressed hope that this would further enhance the status of Jongga Kimchi in the U.S.
This year, Korea's kimchi exports to the U.S. are expected to reach a record high. According to the tariff import and export trade statistics, the export volume of kimchi to the U.S. was 6,600 tons in the first half of this year, an increase of about 20% compared to the same period last year. As of last month, the Jongga kimchi brand accounted for 75% of the kimchi export value to the U.S.
