The Korea Consumer Agency noted on the 10th that pet activity space deodorants are less effective at deodorizing fecal odor compared to urine.

The Consumer Agency compared nine pet activity space deodorant products available on the market and found that five of them were relatively superior in ammonia deodorizing performance arising from pet urine. The agency conducted the evaluation based on ratings of excellent, good, and average.

However, six products received a good rating for deodorizing hydrogen sulfide, the substance responsible for fecal odor. None of the products were rated excellent, while the remaining three received the lowest average rating. A Consumer Agency official explained, “Overall, pet activity space deodorants showed a tendency to be superior in ammonia deodorizing performance compared to hydrogen sulfide.”

Additionally, two products received an excellent rating for deodorizing trimethylamine, which has a fishy smell, while the other seven products were at a good level. In the case of methyl mercaptan, which occurs during decay, there were no excellent products, and only five received a good rating. Four products were evaluated as average.

No harmful substances to humans were detected in all surveyed products. The same was true in the allergen testing.

However, some products were found to lack contact information for the manufacturer or could mislead consumers into believing the product is harmless due to the use of the term 'non-irritating,' indicating improvements are needed. In this regard, the Consumer Agency plans to recommend improvements to the relevant businesses and notify the related authorities.
