The Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and the Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises and Startups held a completion ceremony on the 16th for the first industry-academia-research innovation hub (Hannam University) promoted under the 'campus innovation park development plan.'
The campus innovation park project is a joint initiative by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and the Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises and Startups to establish a platform that supports the growth of youth and startup corporations on university campuses, aiming to create innovative workspaces and quality job opportunities for young people.
From 2019 to last year, nine universities including Kangwon, Hannam, Hanyang, Gyeongbuk, Jeonnam, Jeonbuk, Changwon, Pukyong, and Dankook were selected through four rounds of public recruitment and are currently being implemented.
The Hannam University campus innovation park is being co-managed by Hannam University and the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH). A 20,000 square meter site for phase one has been developed to establish the industry-academia-research innovation hub. An additional 10,000 square meter site for phase two is planned to be developed with a focus on research facilities and infrastructure in the fields of machinery, metal, and bio led by the university.
The newly completed industry-academia-research innovation hub offers workspace for startup corporations and research institutes, providing up to 70% for startup corporations and 80% for growth corporations, available for up to 10 years. It is also planned to allocate space for research and development and support programs for corporations.
Resident corporations in the industry-academia-research innovation hub will be able to utilize the university's research infrastructure and benefit from government support programs, enabling a virtuous cycle of corporate growth from startup to stability to expansion. The survival rate of growth corporations (Post Business Incubator) after startup is expected to increase, alongside the anticipated expansion of employment and startups in high-tech industries preferred by the youth.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Lee Ju-ho stated, 'I hope the campus innovation park will become a hub of innovation leading to the co-growth of the region and the university,' and noted, 'Through inter-ministerial cooperation, we will continue to support universities in solving community issues, creating new economic value, and nurturing creative talents.'
Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Park Sang-woo remarked, 'We will make every effort to promote balanced regional development by continuously implementing innovation growth support policies for the region, such as the campus innovation park, advanced national industrial complexes, urban convergence special zones, and corporate innovation parks.'
Minister of Small and Medium Enterprises and Startups Oh Young-joo said, 'We will strive to lead the development of the local economy and advanced industries by promoting university startup support projects to activate university-based technology and youth entrepreneurship.'
