The National Assembly's "12·29 Passenger Plane Disaster Truth Commission and Special Committee for Victim and Bereaved Family Relief" held its third full meeting that day and referred five bills of the "Passenger Plane Disaster Support Law" to the "Subcommittee for Supporting Victims and Bereaved Families and Commemorative Projects" through an agreement between the ruling and opposition parties. The bill is scheduled to be presented to the National Assembly after reviews by the special committee and the Legislative and Judiciary Committee.

The bill was jointly proposed by Kim Eun-hye of the People Power Party and Lee Soo-jin of the Democratic Party, along with Democratic Party members Moon Geum-joo, Jeon Jin-sook, and Seo Sam-seok. The provisions for insurance payments for the disaster victims and support for living, medical, care, and legal assistance for bereaved families are common aspects.

In particular, it contains provisions allowing compensation equivalent to the local government insurance funds for victims under the age of 15 who are not covered by life insurance. Eight individuals under the age of 15 died in this disaster. However, under current law, they cannot even take out life insurance, leaving their families unable to receive compensation. Additionally, it includes the establishment of an investigative committee for truthfinding, support for affected areas and commemorative projects, education, medical, living expense support for bereaved families, application of healing leave, and measures to prevent secondary harm to bereaved families.

The National Assembly aims to swiftly pass the relevant special law with the agreement of both parties. National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-sik noted regarding the 12·29 Jeju Air passenger plane disaster that he would ensure that the establishment of the special law and thorough truthfinding are carried out. That morning, he met with representatives of the families of the victims in his office to discuss support measures.
