The Democratic Party of Korea launched emergency actions in and out of the National Assembly on the 8th after the prosecution did not immediately appeal the court's decision to cancel President Yoon Suk-yeol's arrest and released him. From that night until the ruling on the impeachment of President Yoon, they decided to hold all-night sit-ins and protests every day in the National Assembly. They are making a final push for public opinion, urging the Constitutional Court to expedite the removal of President Yoon.
On the same day, the Democratic Party held an emergency general meeting at the National Assembly to discuss measures following President Yoon's release. As a result of the meeting, they decided to enter emergency actions starting that day and to hold general meetings, protests, outdoor gatherings in Gwanghwamun, and all-night sit-ins at the National Assembly daily until the ruling on the impeachment of President Yoon.
The general meetings will be convened twice daily, in the morning and afternoon. Afterward, all members plan to carry out protests in the National Assembly's rotunda until midnight, and organize groups by committee to conduct all-night sit-ins until 6 a.m. the next day.
During the protest on the first day of emergency actions held right after the general meeting, Representative Park Kyun-taek criticized, "Why does the prosecution, which opposed and resisted every time the court made a decision, accept the defendant Yoon Suk-yeol like a gentle lamb?" He remarked that "the prosecution is over."
During the general meeting, opinions on holding the responsibility of Prosecutor General Shim were reported to be strong. Although the prosecution did not immediately indict President Yoon after the court's decision to deny an extension of the detention period, there was a claim that they abandoned the appeal possible under the Criminal Procedure Act after the cancellation of the detention and directed his release. Previously, Floor Leader Park Chan-dae also noted in the general meeting that "the fact that the prosecution has abandoned the appeal under the Criminal Procedure Act and released Yoon Suk-yeol is shocking and unacceptable," stating, "Prosecutor General Shim must pay the price for this."
However, there is a cautious atmosphere regarding the promotion of the impeachment motion against Prosecutor General Shim. Floor Spokesperson Noh Jong-myeon told reporters after the adjournment of the general meeting that "there are opinions that we should impeach him, but since the opinions are diverse, it is premature to discuss the direction."
