Sung Sang-geun, former Vice Minister of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, has been appointed as the 8th president of the Busan Port Authority. The term lasts for three years from the 10th until February 9, 2028.
New President Sung Sang-geun entered public service in 1992 after passing the 36th National Administrative Examination. He has held significant positions including director of the port logistics division at the Busan Regional Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, director of port logistics planning at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, and second secretary at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the United Kingdom. He completed his public service as Vice Minister of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.
New President Sung is regarded as an expert in shipping, ports, and international logistics, possessing not only work experience and expertise in the maritime and fisheries sectors but also a strong international sense.
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries noted that in light of the rising uncertainty in the global supply chain due to the inauguration of the Trump administration's second term, the restructuring of shipping alliances, and geopolitical disputes, he is the right person to respond swiftly to changes in the shipping logistics environment and to foster Busan Port as a global hub port.
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries also predicted that President Sung would promptly address key issues at Busan Port, including the stable management of the Busan Port Authority, the development of the Busan New Port in Jinhae, and the redevelopment of the North Port.
