Choi Sang-mok, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Ministry of Strategy and Finance, noted on the 17th a strong sense of responsibility for the situation following martial law and stated the intention to step down after stabilizing the economy.

In a National Assembly Strategy and Finance Committee inquiry, Deputy Prime Minister Choi said, “I have firmly opposed martial law while deciding to resign, and I still hold the same opinion,” adding, “I have a strong sense of responsibility for failing to prevent the current situation.”

Choi further expressed that “The burden of public office is weighing on me, considering my personal intentions could negatively impact international credibility if reported by foreign media,” adding, “Once I have fulfilled the responsibility of managing our economy as stably as possible, regardless of my position, I will step down.”
