The Chemical Safety Institute under the Ministry of Environment announced on the 15th that it will hold an award ceremony for the '4th Chemical Accident Prevention and Management Plan Implementation Best Practices Sharing Contest' on the 16th at the main auditorium of the institute located in Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province, and will select and award seven corporations as best practices.
This contest, which began in 2021, is designed to discover exemplary cases of emergency response plans for chemical accidents, identify on-site customized safety management best practices reflecting the characteristics of corporations, widely disseminate them, and establish a chemical safety culture.
This year, various cases were collected through an open call from Oct. 23 to Nov. 6. Seven corporations' best practices were selected through a first written evaluation focused on content suitability, field applicability, and thoroughness, and a second presentation evaluation on specificity, spreadability, and presentation delivery.
The seven corporations are: ▲ Grand Prize - Korea South-East Power Andong Bitdream Headquarters ▲ Best Prize - Daehan Specialty Steel and HD Hyundai Chemical ▲ Excellence Prize - LG Display Gumi Plant, Dongwoo Fine-Chem, LG Chem Hwa-Chee Complex, GS Donghae Power.
Korea South-East Power Andong Bitdream Headquarters, which received the grand prize, was highly rated for considering on-site work handling large amounts of ammonia water for flue gas denitrification equipment and establishing a 24-hour continuous online unmanned management system (kiosk) network at major chemical handling facilities, and introducing the 'Easy Access, Easy Operation, Easy Understanding' system (3E) for on-site workers.
The Chemical Safety Institute plans to produce the best practices selected in this sharing contest into materials and videos to post on the institute's website by the end of the year and distribute the materials to related corporations.
Park Bong-kyun, head of the Chemical Safety Institute, noted, "Our institution will continue to actively support the safe business activities of corporations, and we will strive to expand the chemical safety culture by producing an analysis collection of accumulated best practices by theme."
