The metaverse game platform Roblox will release the generative artificial intelligence (AI) based system 'Cube 3D' as open-source.

Roblox noted that it will launch the beta version of the Cube 3D mesh generation application programming interface (API) this week at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) that opened on the 17th in San Francisco, United States.

A mesh is the skeleton of a 3D model made up of multiple small polygons.

According to Roblox, Cube 3D generates sophisticated 3D meshes based on prompts entered by users, which can be immediately applied to content development within Roblox.

Developers can save time in game creation by producing models with prompts such as 'a red off-road car with bumpy tires' and 'a unicorn with a rainbow mane and tail.'

Roblox also mentioned it plans to expand the capabilities of 'Cube 3D' in the future to generate scenes with multiple objects and to add a '4D generation' feature that understands the relationships between objects.

Roblox stated, 'Cube will serve as the foundation for various AI tools to be developed in the future and will ultimately be integrated with existing AI creation tools as a multimodal model that learns from various input data including text, images, and videos.'

In addition, Roblox is expected to announce advancements to 'Roblox Studio' for content creators and a new revenue program at GDC.
