Samsung Electronics announced on the 3rd that it will showcase a TV equipped with the three-dimensional (3D) audio technology "Eclipsa Audio," co-developed with Google, at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2025 in Las Vegas, marking the industry's first debut.
Eclipsa Audio optimizes acoustic data such as sound location and intensity, as well as spatial reflections, based on IAMF technology to create sound that feels as if it exists in a three-dimensional space.
The IAMF technology is the first audio technology specification adopted by the Open Media Alliance (AOM), which includes various global corporations such as Google, Netflix, and Meta, and is the first open audio technology provided on an open-source basis.
Samsung Electronics will officially support IAMF technology across its entire lineup, from the 2025 Crystal UHD models to Neo QLED 8K.
Samsung Electronics and Google plan to support consumers in enjoying 3D audio content that utilizes IAMF technology through a TV-exclusive YouTube app.
Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics and Google are working on the introduction of the IAMF audio certification program. The two companies are strengthening their collaboration by establishing testing standards to ensure the audio quality of devices using Eclipsa Audio technology, alongside the external certification organization, the Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA).
Son Tae-yong, vice president of the video display business at Samsung Electronics, said, "We plan to present the potential of next-generation immersive audio technology through the Neo QLED TV equipped with 3D audio technology at CES 2025," adding, "We will establish a new audio standard in the industry through IAMF technology."
Jim Bankoski, vice president of engineering at Google Chrome, said, "We believe that Eclipsa Audio has the potential to change the way sound is experienced," and expressed anticipation for how creators will utilize this to create new and innovative audio experiences.
