Samsung Electronics is accelerating its preparations for future communication by showcasing its communication and AI convergence technology that integrates artificial intelligence (AI) into wireless access networks (RAN).

On the 31st, Samsung Electronics noted that it demonstrated AI-RAN technology aimed at improving base station data processing capacity, communication range, and energy efficiency at the Future Communication Summit held in Silicon Valley, United States. RAN is a key element that connects mobile phones and the core network, significantly impacting transmission speeds and communication quality.

In this demonstration, Samsung Electronics applied a method to enhance the accuracy of wireless channel state estimation using AI technology, significantly improving data throughput between base stations and terminals compared to the existing 5G RAN. It also proved energy-saving effects with AI-based power efficiency optimization technology.

Major global telecommunications companies, including Verizon and NTT Docomo, evaluated Samsung Electronics' demonstration as "a significant achievement for the advancement of future RAN technology." In particular, they expressed expectations that Samsung's AI-RAN technology will play a crucial role in preparing for the 6G era.

Samsung Electronics plans to continue innovations in collaboration with industry partners as a founding member of the AI-RAN alliance for the commercialization of AI-RAN technology. Charlie Zhang, executive at Samsung Research's Next-Generation Communication Research Center, said, "We will collaborate for innovation in AI-based wireless communication."
