Samsung Electronics announced on the 30th that the number of domestic users of its Internet of Things (IoT) platform, SmartThings, recently surpassed 20 million.

According to Samsung Electronics, 92% of buyers of the 'Bespoke AI Steam' robotic vacuum cleaner launched in April this year and 80% of buyers of the 'Bespoke AI Combo' all-in-one washing and drying machine released in February connected it to SmartThings.

The main SmartThings features utilized included 'Home Care' for remote diagnosis and maintenance of products, 'Energy Saving' for monitoring the power consumption of linked devices and managing usage, and 'Pet Care' for checking the location of pets and remotely controlling appliances based on their status, all of which were AI-based, lifestyle-oriented functionalities.

In particular, when device malfunctions are detected, upgraded features such as immediate post-service (AS) registration via the app and converting saved energy into membership points, as well as checking the pet status graph, showed a high increase rate of approximately 72%, 71%, and 79% when comparing usage rates from early January to mid-December this year.

Samsung Electronics explained that more than 1,000 domestic users are consolidating over 100 products within SmartThings, including its own products and those from more than 300 partner companies. It also noted an increase in cases where the 'Automation' feature, allowing appliances to operate by themselves tailored to daily life, is being set up.

A representative from Samsung Electronics said, 'As AI appliance purchases increase, there are more customers actively utilizing SmartThings, and the usage patterns have diversified,' adding, 'We will continue to introduce various SmartThings features that create a convenient daily life.'
