On the 29th, Samsung Electronics announced that it will enhance the accessibility of household appliances for visually impaired and low-vision individuals.

Samsung Electronics collaborated with TUAT, which created the artificial intelligence (AI)-based visual assistance app "Sullivan Plus," to add a "home appliance QR mode" to the "Sullivan Plus" app that helps visually impaired users easily locate QR codes attached to Samsung Electronics' products.

"Sullivan Plus" is used in over 200 countries and provides various services for visually impaired individuals, such as describing images and reading text.

When users shine the camera around using the "Sullivan Plus" app's "home appliance QR mode," the surrounding appliances are automatically recognized. It also provides spoken descriptions of the location of the QR codes attached to the recognized appliances in 32 languages.

The "home appliance QR mode" can distinguish and recognize a total of 5,895 models across 12 product categories of Samsung Electronics refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners, and air purifiers that were released from 2022 to September this year, based on trained data.

Since 2023, Samsung Electronics has been providing integrated QR codes attached to its household appliances. When users recognize the integrated QR code on a household appliance, they can connect to "SmartThings" or register the product. In addition, various product-related information, including manuals, can also be accessed.
