Google has integrated its generative artificial intelligence (AI) service Gemini into Workspace, signaling an innovation in working environments. In particular, it is designed to allow users to receive assistance from AI without leaving their work screen by expanding support for the Korean language.

At the event ‘Gemini for Google Workspace: Lunch & Run’ held on the 18th at Google Korea’s headquarters in Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam, Cho Hye-min, Google Workspace Customer Engineering Lead, said, “Gemini is a tool that helps reduce repetitive and time-consuming tasks, allowing users to focus on creative and strategic work,” adding that “the Korean language support will significantly enhance domestic users' engagement in their work.”

During the announcement, Cho identified key features of Gemini as ▲email summarization ▲document creation ▲translation and summarization ▲data analysis and organization. He emphasized that “it is integrated with all tools in Workspace to maximize efficiency and productivity.”

The core of Gemini is the integrated ‘side panel’ within the Workspace app. Users can receive AI assistance through the panel while checking emails or drafting documents. For instance, they can summarize only important emails or automatically generate reports by analyzing data from Drive.

During a live demonstration, the process of creating an article related to the musical ‘Aladdin’ using Gemini was showcased. When Cho asked, “Please draft an article emphasizing the harmony between Junsu Xia and Lee Sung-kyung,” Gemini quickly completed a draft that included the title and main content. The tool also easily organized character information into a table or exported it to a spreadsheet.

Cho noted, “Gemini is a tool that helps create creative outputs based on data,” explaining that “all tasks within Workspace are done quickly and easily.”

Gemini also demonstrated its strengths in a global collaboration environment. The real-time translation caption feature introduced in Google Meet automatically converts foreign language conversations into subtitles, eliminating language barriers. According to Cho, clear communication becomes possible even in noisy environments, making it a useful tool for teams conducting global projects.

Along with this, Google emphasized the importance of ‘prompt engineering,’ which increases the quality of outputs as users make clearer and more specific requests. Cho mentioned, “For example, if you request, ‘I am a marketing manager. Please provide three ideas for social media content this week,’ the AI can provide tailored and sophisticated outputs.”
