The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Creative Content Agency announced on the 13th that they successfully held the '2024 Global Game Hub Center Networking Day' at the Global Game Hub Center located in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, on the 11th.
Opened in 2009, the Global Game Hub Center is a representative support facility in South Korea specializing in gaming genres. The event was organized as a venue for small and medium-sized game development companies, publishers, investors, and various industry participants to seek ways for exchange and collaboration through a demo day, excellent performance presentations, and a networking reception.
The demo day, which was the first part of the program, featured six resident companies of the Global Game Hub Center, including 36liters, SpringSoft, Entryple, Odysseyer, Alien Abduction Operation, and Capers, presenting their investment pitches in front of a judging panel made up of publishers and investors.
Each corporation appealed to their technical differentiation and market entry potential, and some companies achieved concrete discussions for collaboration with investors. In the presentation of excellent performances, resident company Wonder Potion, an indie game developer, shared behind-the-scenes information about the production of its representative work, the Korean-style cyberpunk 2D action game 'San Nabi,' and strategic approaches for success in the global market. Another resident company, Nerdy Star, introduced examples of applying AI and machine learning technologies in games to enhance productivity and reduce expenses, under the theme of 'Everything about AI usage cases.'
During the final networking reception, over 100 industry participants, including resident companies, graduated companies, investors, and publishers, had the opportunity to exchange ideas and discuss collaboration methods.
Kim Nam-geol, head of the Game New Technologies Division at the Korea Creative Content Agency, noted, 'This networking day serves as an opportunity for small and medium-sized K-game developers to build global competitiveness and review practical investment connection possibilities.' He also remarked, 'We will continue to support various programs to facilitate active collaboration with industry stakeholders in the future.'
Meanwhile, the Korea Creative Content Agency plans to recruit new corporations to reside in the Global Game Hub Center in the first half of next year. The target for recruitment includes small and medium-sized game developers and early-stage companies (less than five years since establishment). Selected corporations will receive benefits such as support for rental and management fees, investment attraction and consulting services, development software support, and testbed support.
