The Ministry of SMEs and Startups announced on the 9th that it will hold an event to ease consumer price burdens ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday, raising the discount rate on digital (card and mobile) Onnuri gift certificates (hereinafter referred to as digital gift certificates) by 5 percentage points from January 10th to February 10th.
First, the discount rate for digital gift certificates will be increased from the current 10% to 15%. The monthly purchase limit for digital gift certificates is currently 2 million won, with a 10% discount rate. The paper version maintains a monthly purchase limit of 500,000 won and a 5% discount rate.
Additionally, a rebate of up to 15% of the payment amount for digital gift certificates will be given, with a maximum limit of 20,000 won per person. The rebate will be calculated based on 15% of the payment amount, rounded to the nearest 1,000 won, and the minimum payment amount required for the rebate is 7,000 won. If 7,000 won is spent, 1,000 won will be refunded, while a payment of 100,000 won will yield a rebate of 15,000 won. Rebate payments for card types will be made as gifts, while mobile types will use a coupon registration function.
When purchasing products with digital gift certificates at special discount events in 12 online traditional markets, including Onnuri Market and Onnuri Traditional Market, a discount coupon of 5% of the product price can be applied. If the digital gift certificate purchase discount (15%), rebate event (15%), and discount coupon (5%) at the online traditional market are all combined, a maximum discount benefit of 35% can be received when purchasing products.
Onnuri gift certificates can be used at stores within traditional markets, shopping streets, alley-style shopping streets, revitalization areas as defined by the Traditional Market Act, as well as in autonomous commercial areas under the Regional Commercial District Act and at century-old small business shops under the Small Business Act.
Furthermore, a tax deduction benefit of 40% can be received for amounts spent on purchasing holiday gifts and traditional ritual items at traditional markets (using card, mobile, or cash receipts).
Lee Dae-geon, the head of the small business policy division at the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, noted, “I hope consumers can feel the relief of the burden on holiday shopping prices through the discounts and rebates for digital gift certificates.”
