Last year, the domestic sales volume of eco-friendly vehicles from the five major automakers reached 451,94 units, the highest ever recorded.

In particular, hybrid vehicles (HEVs) recorded the highest sales ever, leading the growth of the domestic eco-friendly vehicle market. However, last year's electric vehicle (EV) sales decreased by more than 20% compared to the previous year.

On the 5th, a compilation of the performance of the five domestic automakers—Hyundai Motor Company, Kia Corporation, GM Korea, Renault Korea Automotive, and KG Mobility—showed that their domestic sales of eco-friendly vehicles totaled 451,94 units. This figure represents an 11.1% increase compared to the previous year's 405,331 units, the highest sales volume ever recorded.

Among these, hybrid vehicles saw a 24.9% increase, with 356,058 units sold, driving the growth of the eco-friendly vehicle market. Last year, hybrid vehicles accounted for 88% of total eco-friendly vehicle sales.

Electric vehicle sales decreased from 115,900 units in 2023 to 91,385 units last year, a reduction of 21.2%, falling below the annual threshold of 100,000 units. Fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) also dropped significantly from 4,328 units to 2,751 units, a decline of 36.4%.

Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Corporation accounted for about 90% of domestic sales, surpassing 400,000 eco-friendly vehicles for the first time last year.

The eco-friendly vehicle sales of Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Corporation last year amounted to 423,059 units, marking a 5.8% increase compared to the previous year. In particular, hybrid vehicles saw an 18.2% increase, with 335,105 units sold, exceeding 300,000 units for the first time. Electric vehicle sales dropped to 85,203 units, a 23.9% decline, while hydrogen vehicle sales decreased to 2,751 units, a 36.4% reduction.
