The Korea Securities Depository noted on the 10th that the total stock settlement amount for 2024 was recorded at 483.4 trillion won. The average daily amount is 19.8 billion won, an increase of 28.5% compared to the total of 376.3 trillion won in 2023.
Last year, the stock settlement amount on the exchange was 217.4 trillion won, representing an increase of 28.9% compared to 2023. This refers to the settlement amounts in the markets opened by the Korea Exchange, including KOSPI, KOSDAQ, and KONEX. The settlement amount for institutional investors in stocks also rose from 207.7 trillion won in 2023 to 266 trillion won last year, an increase of 28.1%.
The stock settlement amount showed a rebound last year, climbing from 510.8 trillion won in 2021 and staying in the 300 trillion won range for 2022 and 2023. This is attributed to a high transaction volume during the first half of the year, amidst a sluggish domestic stock market.
Last year's stock settlement amount deduction rates were 96.1% for exchange stock settlements and 90.9% for institutional investor settlements. The Korea Securities Depository said that the deduction of stock settlement amounts allows market participants to complete securities settlements with minimal funds and reduces liquidity risk, thereby contributing to the stability of the securities market.
