The government has decided to strengthen services that can confirm whether the deceased subscribed to pre-paid burial products.
The Financial Supervisory Service, Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and Fair Trade Commission noted on the 29th that starting from the 30th, they will enable confirmation of all pre-paid burial product subscriptions through the 'Safe Inheritance One-Stop Service' and 'Heir Financial Transaction Inquiry Service.'
Until now, bereaved families could only check pre-paid burial products for which the deceased secured deposits through banks. In cases where deposits were secured through mutual aid associations, each company had to be verified individually.
However, with the expansion of this service, bereaved families can confirm whether the deceased subscribed to all pre-paid burial products at once, regardless of the deposit securing institution, using only the deceased's name, date of birth, and phone number.
The service can be utilized by visiting a nearby eup, myeon, or dong community center or by applying for the 'Safe Inheritance One-Stop Service' on the Government 24 website. The 'Heir Financial Transaction Inquiry Service' is automatically applied for together.
The government plans to allow inquiries about the subscription to pre-paid burial products through an 'Integrated Information Provision Platform for Pre-Paid Installment Transactions' starting at the end of next year.
Since its introduction in June 2015, the Safe Inheritance One-Stop Service has been used by approximately 1.5 million people until last year. The Heir Financial Transaction Inquiry Service, which started in January 1999, has been reported to have been used by about 2.25 million people.
