A survey found that teachers and parents who observed a class demonstration using artificial intelligence (AI) digital textbooks, which will be introduced in public education starting next year, reported higher satisfaction compared to before the observation.

The Ministry of Education announced the results of a survey on teachers and parents who confirmed the use of AI textbooks on the 17th. The survey was conducted with teachers and parents who participated in the '2024 Korea Education Innovation Expo' held at KINTEX in Goyang, Gyeonggi, from 13th to 15th.

In this survey, both teachers and parents reported higher satisfaction after observing the use of AI textbooks compared to before.

Teachers' satisfaction before observing the AI textbooks averaged 3.97 points, and after the observation, it increased to 4.33 points. An elementary school teacher in Seoul, identified as Mr. A, noted, “There is an advantage in being able to immediately monitor students' situations during the lesson and provide appropriate guidance, enhancing communication with students.”

Parents' satisfaction before observing the AI textbooks was an average of 3.53 points, which increased to 4.23 points after the observation. A parent with a middle school student residing in Gyeonggi, identified as Mr. B, said, “I felt that students would become interested and actively participate in classes.”

The Ministry of Education plans to commission a professional institution to conduct a survey to verify whether AI textbooks are beneficial for students and teachers. The survey results are scheduled to be announced by the Ministry of Education and the Korea Education and Research Information Service (KERIS) after the conclusion of training, according to the schedule of each education office.

O Seok-hwan, Vice Minister of Education, said, “This survey is a result of directly observing and responding to how AI textbooks can be applied in real classes,” adding, “I believe many teachers and parents agree that AI textbooks can be utilized as a useful tool.”
