On the afternoon of the 31st, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Yoo In-chon and Second Vice Minister Jang Mi-ran held a 'Winter Sports Cooperation Meeting' at the Seoul Olympic Parktel.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism moved forward with the cooperation meeting attended by leaders of seven winter sports organizations, including figure skating (Lee Soo-kyung), snowboard (Choi Hong-hoon), biathlon (Lee Hyuk-ryeol), bobsleigh and skeleton (Jeon Chan-min), luge (Lim Soon-gil), curling (Han Sang-ho), and ski mountaineering (Jo Jwa-jin), as well as over 20 coaches.
This cooperation meeting, attended by Kim Taek-soo, the head of the athlete village, and Park Se-jeong, director of the sports science laboratory, was a platform to discuss support measures in preparation for the '2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics,' based on the achievement of finishing second overall in the Harbin Winter Asian Games last February.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism decided to support training, equipment purchases, and information collection that could have a short-term, direct impact on the performance enhancement of winter sports this year. Additionally, the ministry decided to gradually promote long-term support such as facility construction and athlete village renovations through budget reflection in 2026.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism plans to continuously discuss and communicate necessary matters for the development of winter sports by forming a consultative body with winter sports organizations and the Korea Sports Council.
Minister Yoo In-chon noted, "For our national team athletes to maintain their best abilities in preparation for the '2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics,' there is much that the Ministry and the Korea Sports Council must do," adding, "We will improve the training conditions for winter sports and ensure that the stakeholders feel supported so that our athletes can achieve good results."
