The highest contract in the history of Taiwanese professional baseball has been finalized.

It has been reported that Chien-Wei Chen (31, Tung-Yi Lions), who hit a two-run home run against Koh Young Technology in the Premier 12 tournament last November, has signed a massive 10-year contract worth 9.7 billion won.

Tung-Yi Lions announced on the 21st that they have signed a 10-year contract with their captain, Chien-Wei Chen. Chien-Wei Chen's previous three-year contract with Tung-Yi ended last year, and he has been negotiating with the team since winning the Premier 12.

According to CPBL Stats, Tung-Yi Lions has extended the contract of center fielder Chien-Wei Chen for 10 years, and the amount of $6.6 million (about 9.7 billion won) is the highest contract in CPBL history. The contract includes a guaranteed amount of $5.6 million (about 8.2 billion won) and incentives of $1.06 million (about 1.5 billion won).

However, another Taiwanese media outlet reported that "Chien-Wei Chen has signed a 10-year contract worth 200 million New Taiwan dollars (about 8.88 billion won). It includes an average monthly salary of 1.4 million New Taiwan dollars, and incentives of 32 million New Taiwan dollars (about 1.4 billion won)." The Tung-Yi team has not officially announced the contract amount, but it appears to be between 9 billion and 10 billion won.

Tung-Yi team Director General Su Tai-An noted, "Chien-Wei Chen has consistently achieved the best results and is a player of high value in terms of character and popularity. He serves as a role model for younger players and is a representative player of the team, so we offered a long-term contract to ensure he becomes a Tung-Yi player forever with favorable terms." Chien-Wei Chen has signed a contract with Tung-Yi until the age of 40, effectively a lifetime contract.

Chien-Wei Chen has recorded a career batting average of .343 with 1,092 hits and 33 home runs until last year. He led the Taiwanese national team as captain to victory in the Premier 12 tournament last year. He hit a two-run home run against Koh Young Technology in a match with South Korea, and in the final against Japan, he hit a crucial three-run home run, leading to a 4-0 victory and the championship title.

In the Premier 12, he performed with a batting average of .625 (15 hits in 24 at-bats), with 2 home runs, 6 RBIs, 5 runs, and 2 stolen bases, earning the tournament MVP, batting title, and being named an All-Star and Best Defensive Player.

Meanwhile, the Chinatrust Brothers recently signed a long-term contract with national team shortstop Chien-Kun Yu for 1.4 billion New Taiwan dollars (about 6.2 billion won) over 10 years, but Chien-Wei Chen surpassed this record to become the highest contract in history.
