16 minutes was enough. Lee Kang-in (24) made a crucial assist, leading Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) to victory.
PSG defeated Olympique Lyonnais 3-2 in an away match during the 23rd round of Ligue 1 for the 2024-2025 season at the Groupama Stadium in Lyon, France, on the 24th (Korea time).
With this, PSG recorded 18 wins and 5 draws, totaling 59 points, maintaining a sole lead in the standings. This marks an unbeaten streak in 23 league matches and eight consecutive official wins. Now, the gap with second-placed Marseille (46 points) is a remarkable 13 points. PSG is getting closer to a four-game winning streak.
On this day, Lee Kang-in started again on the bench. Head coach Luis Enrique did not include Lee Kang-in in the starting lineup for the second consecutive game following the match against Brest. Instead, he set up a 4-3-3 formation with Bradley Barcola, Ousmane Dembélé, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Vitinha, João Neves, Désiré Doué, Nuno Mendes, Lucas Balerdi, Marquinhos, Achraf Hakimi, and Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Lyon operated in a 4-2-3-1 formation. Rayan Cherki, Ernest Nuamah, Corentin Tolisso, Malick Thiaw, Tanner Tessmann, Nemanja Matic, Nicolás Tagliafico, Moussa Niakate, Clinton Mata, Chancel Mbemba, and Lucas Paquetá started.
Both teams finished the first half with a score of 0-0. PSG dominated the game, looking for the opening goal, but could not break through Lyon's solid defense. Dembélé's shot, after getting past the goalkeeper, was blocked by a crucial tackle from Mata.
The second half was different. In the 53rd minute, Hakimi scored the first goal of the match. From the left, Barcola attempted a cutback pass, and the ball rolled to the opposite side. Hakimi, charging in, finished with his right foot, shaking the net.
PSG quickly extended their lead to two goals. In the 58th minute, Dembélé broke through the defense with a dribble and took a sharp left-footed shot. The ball pierced the left corner of the goal, making it 2-0.
Lee Kang-in was brought on. Coach Enrique made a change in the 64th minute, substituting Barcola for Lee Kang-in and placing him in the right wing position.
Lyon began their pursuit. In the 83rd minute, Thiago Almada intercepted the ball in the front and passed it to Jorge Mikautadze, who broke past the left side. Cherki, while falling, managed to connect that into a shot, scoring a consolation goal.
PSG regained some breathing room with another goal. In the 85th minute, Hamus provided a fantastic touch and a backheel pass to Lee Kang-in inside the box. Lee Kang-in unselfishly pushed the ball aside, allowing Hakimi to finish with his right foot, marking his second goal. This was Lee Kang-in's fifth assist of the league.
Lyon did not give up until the end. In the second minute of stoppage time, Tolisso connected a powerful header from a cross that came in from the right, shaking the net. The score was again reduced to a one-goal difference.
However, there wasn't enough time to change the outcome. Lyon's goalkeeper even joined the attack during the last corner kick opportunity, but they ultimately could not equalize. The match ended with PSG winning 3-2, with the goal produced by Lee Kang-in and Hakimi being the decisive one.
