An accident in which a worker died while on the job occurred at a construction site in Pangyo, Bundang-gu, Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, where Samsung C&T is in charge of construction. The Ministry of Employment and Labor (MOEL) said it will investigate whether there were violations of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act.
According to the labor ministry and industry sources on the 29th, a worker in his 60s, identified as A, died around 8 a.m. at the construction site for the new Pangyo641 PSM Tower while transporting steel frames. A was reportedly caught by a backtracking excavator.
The contractor at the construction site is Samsung C&T, and A is known to be an employee of a company that manufactures and installs steel structures. An industry official said, "There appears to be no risk of additional casualties or secondary accidents such as a collapse."
The labor ministry has been dispatched to the scene to look into the circumstances and plans to launch an investigation to determine whether the Serious Accidents Punishment Act was violated.
Pangyo641 PSM Tower is one of the buildings in the "Pangyo641 Project," a software promotion facility being developed by NCSOFT with a Samsung C&T consortium and Seongnam City. The building is said to be located next to the NCSOFT new headquarters under construction, the "Global RDI Center" (Research, Development, Innovation Center).
