The Ministry of the Interior and Safety said on the 29th that 47 of the 647 government services suspended by the fire at the National Computing and Information Service (NCIS) Daejeon center, including Government24, had been restored.
According to the ministry, as of 8:30 a.m. that day, 47 services had been fully restored. Normalization is proceeding in stages, with 30 as of 10 p.m. the previous day and 39 as of midnight.
The normalization list includes Government24, which people use frequently in daily life. For mobile ID, new issuance and reissuance are difficult, but use is normal. At Korea Post Finance, internet deposits, smart deposits, the financial products mall, internet insurance, and smart insurance are available, but parcels and mail are still unavailable.
The ministry said, "We will give notice through Naver and Daum each time the remaining systems resume service."
A list of 96 systems whose recovery will be difficult for a long period due to the computer room being completely burned will also be disclosed soon. It has been decided to transfer these systems to a public-private cooperative cloud within the NCIS Daegu center. It is expected that it will take at least two weeks to normalize these systems.
Meanwhile, to resolve civil complaint inconveniences until the disruption is resolved, the government decided to operate the Government Joint Civil Service Center (110 call center), local civil service centers (such as the 120 call center), and a dedicated civil complaint support team starting that day.
Earlier, at about 8:15 p.m. on the 26th, a fire broke out due to a lithium-ion battery explosion in the computer room on the fifth floor of the NCIS building in Hwaam-dong, Yuseong-gu, Daejeon. Damage to systems affected by the fire caused government services to go down all at once.
The ministry said it is prioritizing systems that affect public safety, property, and economic activity, and is proceeding with recovery by priority according to a grading system such as system importance.
Yoon Ho-jung, Minister of the Interior and Safety, said, "We deeply apologize for the great inconvenience to the public," and added, "We will mobilize all capabilities to minimize inconvenience and accelerate the speed of disruption recovery."
