In the two days when applications and payments for the second people's livelihood recovery consumption coupons were made, a total of 12.59 million people applied.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety said as of 12 a.m. on the 24th, 12,590,245 people had applied for the second round of coupons, and a total of 1.259 trillion won had been paid. That is 27.6% of all eligible recipients.
Of applicants, 72% received the second-round coupons via credit or debit card. The shares were 15.6% via the mobile or card versions of the local love gift certificate, 10.3% via prepaid card, and 2% via paper local love gift certificates.
By region, South Jeolla (33.4%) had the highest application rate, followed by Sejong (28.91%), Incheon (28.91%), and North Jeolla (28.09%). Regions with lower application rates included Jeju (24.23%), Gangwon (26.08%), North Chungcheong (26.68%), and Seoul (27.1%).
The second people's livelihood recovery consumption coupons, which provide 100,000 won per person to 90% of the population, began taking applications and making payments on the 22nd. In the first week of applications, a day-of-week system is in place based on the last digit of the birth year. On Wednesday the 24th, those whose birth year ends in 3 or 8 may apply; on Thursday the 25th, 4 or 9; and on Friday the 26th, 5 or 0. After the weekend, everyone can apply.
Applications are open until 6 p.m. on Oct. 31. Both the first and second rounds of coupons must be used by Nov. 30, and any unused balance will expire.
