A heavy rain advisory has been issued for Seoul. A heavy rain advisory is currently in effect for parts of Gyeonggi, Incheon, Gangwon, and South Chungcheong. The capital area, inland Gangwon, and the Chungnam region will be hit by very heavy rain of 30–50 mm per hour.
The Korea meteorological Administration said it would issue a heavy rain advisory effective 12 p.m. on the 17th for Seoul; Ongjin, Incheon; Bucheon, Gimpo, Dongducheon, Pocheon, Goyang, Yangju, Uijeongbu, Suwon, Seongnam, Guri, Namyangju, Osan, Gunpo, Uiwang, Hanam, Yongin, Hwaseong, and Gwangju in Gyeonggi; Goseong plains and Hwacheon in Gangwon; and Taean, Seosan, Boryung, and Seocheon in South Chungcheong.
From 6 a.m. to now, rainfall in the Seoul–Gyeonggi area has been 10–40 mm. Total expected rainfall for the day is 30–80 mm, with more than 100 mm in some areas.
The Korea meteorological Administration said, "As a band of rain clouds that developed strongly over the West Sea moves east-northeast and flows into the central region, it is dumping rain on those areas," and added, "Through the afternoon, the capital area, inland Gangwon, and the Chungnam region will see very heavy rain of 30–50 mm per hour accompanied by gusts, thunder, and lightning, and there is a possibility that heavy rain advisories and warnings will be expanded and strengthened."
At 30 mm or more per hour, water begins to pool in low rent(expense) areas, fields or sewers overflow, and there is a risk of floods and inundation. At 50 mm or more per hour, when emergency disaster text alerts for heavy rain are sent, it is hard to secure visibility even when using windshield wipers while driving, and rain falls as hard as if water were being poured from a bucket.
In fact, places getting a lot of rain in a short time are occurring one after another today. One-hour rainfall from 9 to 10 a.m. was as follows: ▲ Tanhyeon, Paju, Gyeonggi, 42.5 mm ▲ Muuido, Incheon, 38 mm ▲ Jawondo, Ongjin, Incheon, 36 mm ▲ Ildong, Pocheon, Gyeonggi, 31 mm ▲ Oeyeondo, Boryung, South Chungcheong, 25 mm ▲ Ando, Taean, South Chungcheong, 22 mm. A person surnamed Choi (31) living in Seodaemun District, Seoul, said, "It was pouring so hard that the water came up to my knees."
The Korea meteorological Administration said, "Visibility will shorten rapidly and some roads will be slippery, so pay attention to traffic safety," and added, "Be careful to avoid damage such as landslides and flooding."
Meanwhile, a strong wind advisory has been issued for Boryung and Seocheon in South Chungcheong, and a high seas warning has been issued for the outer central West Sea. A heat advisory has been issued for regions including South Jeolla, North Gyeongsang, South Gyeongsang, Jeju, Daegu, Busan, and Ulsan.
